Singapore Suburbs – List of locations, accommodation & MRT Map
Downtown is an urban planning area found in the south of the State City in Singapore. It is also part of central area which is the Central Business District of Singapore and one of the most densely populated areas in the country. It touches the Singapore River on one side, the south-eastern side of the river’s watershed and on the southern side there is Marina Bay. There are many skyscrapers located in Downtown such as Raffles Place, a commercial building on the southern part of the area.
Outram is one of the largest districts in Singapore. Thanks to the settlement of a number of immigrants, mainly from China, Outram’s commerce grew very rapidly. Chinese temples and clan associations combined with Baroque and Victorian architecture in mainly pastel colours are part of what today is known as Chinatown. You can see examples of this architecture on Pagoda Street and Trengganu Street, to name a few.
Orchard is one of the modern commercial districts located in the central region of Singapore. The town is located in the Northern part of the Singapore River. The name Orchard originated from the nutmeg orchards that had grown around the town. It has enough security provided by the police who are located within the town and also transportation is readily available and offered by the bus and taxi companies.
Geylang is a neighbourhood located on the eastern part of the Central Business Centre in Singapore. The town is popular for its late-night activities and even considered Singapore’s red-light district. Geylang is divided into the northern and southern part by the Geylang Road that has a length of roughly around three kilometres. On top of that there are a number of streets also dubbed as the “lorongs” that run from Geylang Road. These streets are always busy and filled with visitors who flock here after a night out on the town.
