War Memorial Park

War Memorial Park in downtown Singapore is a heritage site dedicated to the lives taken in World War II.

It’s located on land which former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew allocated specifically for developing a memorial to commemorate the civilian victims of the war.

Launched in 1967, the park houses the Civilian War Memorial, which is fondly referred to as “the chopsticks”; four pillars each with a height of about 67 metres, built to honour the four races of Singapore: Chinese, Indian, Malay, and Eurasian. The narrow structures are joined in the base as a symbol of unity among these races.

When visiting the War Memorial Park, visitors must observe silence and avoid being rowdy or making noise. It is necessary to show respect for the memorial and what it stands for. Every February 15th, memorial services are held in the park.

The War Memorial Park is located along Nicoll Highway and Stamford Road.
